I am pleased to announce that the Outreachy internship concluded successfully.
As previously [announced](https://news.perlfoundation.org/post/outreachy-2020-intern-announced), The Perl Foundation accepted Areesha Tariq as an intern for this year’s internship to work on [Open Food Facts](https://world.openfoodfacts.org/). Stéphane Gigandet provided mentorship for her during the entire program. I would like to congratulate both for the successful program completion and express gratitude for their hard work.
During the internship, Areesha completed the followings:
* Templatization of the HTML/CSS/JS code generation of the Open Food Facts web site, thanks to the Template::Toolkit module
* Documentation of some of the Open Food Facts modules in the POD format
* Improvements to the documentation of the docker install of the Open Food Facts development environment
Stéphane says:
> It was fantastic to have Areesha work on the very much needed templatization of our code. Her new clean Template::Toolkit templates will make it much easier for designers to update and improve the Open Food Facts web site design. Thank you so much to Areesha, The Perl Foundation and Outreachy for making this internship possible!
Areesha says:
> I am grateful to Stéphane, Outreachy, and The Perl Foundation for this internship at Open Food Facts. The internship has been a rewarding journey for me. I’ve learned a lot during this time. I really want to thank Stéphane and Open Food Facts’ members for always helping me out, giving me a timely response and detailed feedback, and helping me overcome the Imposter Syndrome. As a result of this experience, I’m more excited than ever to pursue a career in development.
I’d like to add that Open Food Facts is always looking for Perl developers’ help! If you are interested in helping this crowdsourced database of food products, take a look at their [issues list](https://github.com/openfoodfacts/openfoodfacts-server) and send pull requests.
Lastly, The Perl Foundation is looking for mentors and project ideas for the next Outreachy rounds. The internship period starts in December 2020 and ends in March 2021. If you have Perl or Raku project ideas, please contact makoto@perlfoundation.org no later than September 5th, 2020.
