**Hello (TPRF) World!
Welcome to the first installment of the TPRF Newsletter. **
Time for another TPRC 2023 update!
A reminder to all folks traveling from outside Canada (that's most of you) to attend TPRC 2023, go ahead and check that you have your passport! You're going to have to show that off to enter the country.
Dave Rolsky's course on Go is now available on Eventbrite. The cost of the course is $125USD, and it's taking place at the Doubletree Hilton on Friday July 14, right after the TPRC 2023 conference. Reserve your spot here: https://sched.co/1NIEL
You haven't registered for the conference yet? Visit the website at https://tprc.to and set aside July 11-13 (Tuesday to Thursday) for three days packed full of information, networking, and socializing with fellow Perl Developers.
We are also looking for volunteers to help at the conference. If you are interested, please fill out our form at https://forms.gle/RNbTuVhx5cDrBMob8
**Volunteer Spotlight- Saif Ahmed, Secretary of the Grants Committee**
I work as an orthopedic surgeon for my Day Job, living in the UK, with special interest in Tissue Engineering, Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery, and 3D printing.
About 20 years ago I picked up a second hand book on Perl for 50p, and that was the start of my journey into this wonderful language.
I use Perl for fun and occasionally for work, creating a "Computerised Rota Analysis Programme" for my hospital; they didn't like the acronym it came with, so I had to rename it to "Medway Orthopaedic Computerised Rota Analysis Programme". More recently, I developed GUIDeFATE, and Term::Graille both on CPAN, though I can't claim to be a particularly adept or disciplined programmer. I like to "imaginvent" and make countless things, none of which have ever been useful, and all of which leave my wife despairing.
Speaking of which, I have 5 kids and 5 grandkids who have grown to accept my madness. I have only one philosophy: be kind to people and give more than you take, so you leave the world a better place... wait, that's two things or is that three? Volunteering for TPRF fills up a few hours that I might otherwise be spending contemplating the nature of belly button fluff.
