Dave Mitchell has requested an extension of $20,000 for his "Fixing Perl5 Core Bugs":http://news.perlfoundation.org/2010/02/grant-proposal-fixing-perl5-co.html grant. During this grant he has sent weekly reports to the p5p mailing list as well as providing monthly summary reports that have been published on this blog. He has also provided the following summary of his work to date:
In the course of the last year and a half, I have closed 68 bug tickets directly related to bugs I have fixed, plus a further 9 duplicate tickets. I have have also closed 82 other tickets as part of reviewing the bug queues. This total of 159 closed tickets represents approximately 10% of the tickets that were open at the start of this grant. The oldest ticket I fixed was over 11 years old.
The areas I have spent most time on have been related to security and tainting, segfaults, tieing and overloading issues, and the many issues with /(?{...})/
Before we make a decision on this extension we would like to have a period of community consultation. Please leave feedback in the comments or if you prefer send email with your comments to karen at perlfoundation.org.

Dave's been doing a fantastic job of fixing the gnarly problems no-one else has the time or skill to fix. I'd hate for him to stop. Please approve the extension.

Please approve - he does great work for Perl.
Can't see any reason at all not to approve this. Dave's work has been great.

Dave is great value for money doing this work. Please don't let him stop!
I think it is hard to get a better value for the money spent on fixing the kind of bugs than what Dave did.
At about USD 125 per closed bug report, it would be great if it were scalable beyond One Dave.
Nice!! I hope you will keep up the amazing work.
Thank you, Dave, for your tireless work.
The extension is a no-brainer as far as I am concerned.
I must echo the previous posts: this was a great value, from one of the few people on the planet capable of offering it. We should not pass up this opportunity.
+1, a great value for the community. Thanks to all our sponsors for making it possible.
